You may need to transfer files from your local machine (running Linux, Mac or Windows) to your Windows terminal service session.
Depending on your desktop's location and the source/destination of your file transfer you may use one of the following methods.

Method 1: You are at CERN and you are running Windows.

In this case you can transfer files via the Folder Redirections. Your Favorites, Desktop and My Documents folders are redirected to your Home Directory in both, your normal desktop session and WTS session. The contents of these three folders are the same in both environments.
You may need more space (quota) on your Home Directory. You can ask for more quota at WinServices site.

Method 2: You are at CERN or outside CERN, it doesn't matter the operating system your computer runs

If you are running windows 7. Then copy/paste or drag and drop of your file in the TS window will transfer the file.

You can also use the DFS pages : https://espace.cern.ch/winservices-help/DFS/WebDAV/Pages/default.aspx

Method 3: You are at CERN or outside CERN and you want to transfer content with AFS

Two possibilities here:

  • You can use the Secure CoPy client coming with Putty to communicate from/to Lxplus. Please see Putty Introduction.
  • You can use WinSCP to transfer contents from/to AFS. Please see WinSCP.

Method 4: Redirecting your local drives to your WTS session.

We recommend to use this feature with care and always from a system that matches these minimum requirements:

  • anti-virus software installed and configured for at least daily updates (for Windows PCs)
  • operating system and installed applications regularly/automatically secured for all known security holes
  • home computers with "permanent" connections, such as ADSL, protected by a firewall configured to block externally initiated connections
  • system restricted to only run applications which you are familiar with and responsible for. You are recommended to disable personal software to avoid it becoming visible via CERN's infrastructure. In particular note that games, music and freely copied software are targets for viruses, backdoors and spyware, which can place both your system and the CERN site at risk.

This possibility is only available from systems running Windows. It can be also use to transfer files from your WTS session to your local file system.

To enable the redirection of your local drives, open MS remote desktop client: Start -> Programs -> Communications -> Remote Desktop Connection. Select Options -> Local Resource Tab and check out disk drives.
