Electronic delivery of Microsoft software for Work at Home
The Swiss distributor of Microsoft software - ComSoft direct SA - provides a website where CERN users can acquire copies of Microsoft software for work at home.
This website is available at http://cern.onthehub.com. Payments by credit card or PayPal are accepted.
Should you have any problems or questions related to this website, you can contact the ComSoft direct team directly. Note that the CERN Service Desk will not be able to assist you as this is a service provided directly by ComSoft rather than CERN IT.
This offering is available for Work at Home within CERN Campus agreement. Every person with CERN affiliation can acquire only one copy of given software for installation on either a home or portable computer for work-related purposes. The licence is valid as long as the user is affiliated with CERN and CERN continues to have this software in its Campus agreement. If one of these conditions is no longer valid, the buyer should uninstall this software from his computer.
Since the software is already licenced to CERN, the person pays only a small transactional fee. If the software is delivered as a download, this is the only cost. If, on the other hand, the software is to be delivered on a DVD, then the fee is a bit higher as there is an additional shipping cost.
Note: Microsoft Windows operating system software available in this scenario is only licenced as an upgrade – you can use it to upgrade your existing Windows installation (for example from Windows XP to Windows 7) – but not to install it on a computer originally bought without an OEM Windows licence.
